First Post for Computer 3D Modeling

Hey all!

Welcome to our site. Only three weeks into the school year and we are creating some really fun stuff!

I am Stacy, one of the co-teachers for 3D modeling at G37. My partner is Grav, a 3D digital artist, Maya expert, and graduate student at UIC.

We have awesome students in out class. Everyone here loves anime, video games, comic books, and art! My kind of people. They come from all over Chicago to participate in this program.
We have been working on a couple of projects. Our first project was to create a 3D self portrait in Maya. We took digital photgraphs of ourselves, then uploaded these photos to Photoshop for a little bit of editing. We then load the photos into Maya, where we began to render our portraits.

This is Julio's self portrait in Maya. This is his second year in the 3D Modeling program, and it shows!

Rendering these heads are VERY difficult. To save our sanity, we are taking a break from the protraits, and doing a project on robots!

We are each designing a robot to render in Maya. Because the function of the robot will determine how the robot will look, we first have to decide what we want the robot to do. Once the function is determined, we have to think about the design. Every person who has had a design class in high school or college has heard this saying, "form follows function."
